Darkness to Light. Untruth to Truth. Death to the Deathless.
Human beings are a finite infinitude. Like an iceberg whose tip is above the water but whose mass is invisible underneath the water our life’s tip lives in the day to day world but there is a possibility of great depths and vastness untouched by birth or death. In our day to day human life we are finite and in our wholeness we are unutterable and deathless. It is in The Great Work of spiritual life that we discover ourselves to be part and whole simultaneously. We are the water molecule, the water and the flowing of the river that is Life.
Within the great meta-ecology of existence it is the function and purpose of our lives to attain, to live, and to give expression to this truth. Through the process of this realization we also fulfill our Being Obligation Debt to existence by transforming denser energies into subtle energies and contributing to the eternal balance of reality. Our alchemical work to attain gnosis, enlightenment, feeds the universe.
A cow in its field, chewing its cud, does not wonder why they exist. They do not feel angst death’s approach and life’s meaning. In this they have an ease, based in unconsciousness that human beings lack. Our intuition of infinite possibility haunts us and compels us to enter The Great Work of spiritual life. Unless we have numbed our longing and possibility with the endless vapid mass entertainments and consolations of ceaseless consumerism. Unless we are mainlining the opiate of the masses …. television, Youtube, religion, social hierarchy, conformism, drugs and drink to lull mind to sleep.
The consciousness of death requires a reevaluation of meaning. It prevents us from happily chewing our cud never noticing the slaughter house, the McDonalds down the road, the inevitable end. A consciousness of life demands from us a quest to realize life’s meaning. A meaning beyond staring at a screen, beyond college, job, family, beyond even the touch of death. - t.k., talk 1993
